We care

Welfare of members and their families

We are symbolising how we all feel about supporting our Brethren, their families and the wider community. The notes are issued to give guidance or information relating to the work that we undertake.

Anti-Bullying Policy »

Bullying is not acceptable and will not be tolerated. This Policy explains the Provincial process in dealing with such occasions.

Masonic Charitable Foundation »

Funded entirely by Freemasons, the Masonic Charitable Foundation (MCF) builds better lives by encouraging opportunity, promoting independence and improving wellbeing.

Masonic Charitable Trust »

The ‘Province of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Masonic Charitable Trust’ (MCT) is the Province’s own charity, being funded from investments and supported by donations from Lodges.

Almomer’s Handbook »

This guide has been prepared by UGLE with support from the MCF to assist Metropolitan, Provincial and Lodge Almoners to undertake their important roles. It highlights the key issues which have been known to arise and signposts the reader to tips and advice as well as additional resources where more detailed information is explored on a particular topic.

We Care is the ethos of the Provincial Almoners Team and it was therefore felt appropriate that this heading should be used for communications emanating from the office. It symbolises how we all feel about supporting our Brethren, their families and the wider community. The notes are issued to give guidance or information relating to the work that we undertake.

Mental Health Seminar »

One side-effect of the Covid pandemic was the impact it had on people’s mental health. To bring the issue into the open, raise awareness and hear what steps could be taken to alleviate the problem and prevent it, a seminar was organised by Provincial Grand Almoner.

Holiday Scheme »

The Bournemouth Masonic Holiday has for over 40 years been funded and supported by the
Masonic Charitable Trust (MCT) for deserving brethren, their partners or widows, from within
our own Province.

Amity Group »

There are currently 11 Amity groups spread across the Province. These groups were set up to promote fellowship and companionship among Lodge widows, retired or semi-retired brethren and their partners.

Spread the Word!

Telling people about the Masonic Charitable Foundation (MCF, the Freemasons’ charity) is one of the easiest ways you can make a difference to the 2027 Festival Appeal and our masonic and wider community.

The 2027 Festival Appeal is not just a chance to raise vital funds for the MCF, it is also an opportunity to tell every member of our Province about the support available, so that if anyone ever finds themselves in need, they know that they can approach the MCF.

appointments and promotions

Each year, through a robust process, deserving members receive a first appointment to Provincial Grand Rank or promotion from the Provincial Grand Master which is conferred at the Provincial Annual General Meeting held at Freemasons’ Hall, London.

building together

The embedding One Journey, One Organisation linked to the 2022 Strategy for Freemasonry has provided a unique opportunity for the Royal Arch to engage with the Craft in a more integrated way. The harmonisation of the Members’ Pathway (Craft) and Archway (Royal Arch), which were both independent frameworks for membership management, has been brought into one integrated process.

The Shape, Engage and Respond Hubs within Building Together have guidance and support material for Companions and Brethren.

Attract is focused on the process of engaging individuals who are not Freemasons and providing a framework through which they can be initiated into a Craft Lodge and begin their journey of discovery.

  • A key change in the material, is the emphasis that enquiries looking to join a Lodge have their expectations set from the beginning that they are looking to join Freemasonry and that this includes ‘three ceremonies in one place (Lodge Room) and another (in a Chapter) at a time when you are ready’ note that this description is given using general language someone with little awareness of Freemasonry would be able to understand. This subtle change means we establish the expectation of a journey of four ceremonies at the start of an individual’s path of discovery.
  • Attract starts at the point of enquiry and finishes at the initiation point. The Continue Hub, starts at the point of enquiry and finishes at the point of exaltation.
  • Within the Building Together model, the Brother’s Lodge and Personal mentor are the primary individuals tasked with knowing when to facilitate a brother’s continuing journey.
  • This does not mean that Royal Arch Chapters do not play a role in assisting Master Masons to continue their journey and Discover More, it simply means that All Companions act as champions of the Royal Arch.

The Continue Hub, focuses on how a Royal Arch Chapter can ensure they have the correct resources to promote their Chapter and how each Companion can be empowered to speak with knowledge and confidence of what it means for them to me a member of The Royal Arch.

  • When promoting your Chapter you are speaking to an audience of Master Masons. In contrast to when someone is at the start of their journey you will be speaking to Brethren who can understand and appreciate some aspects of masonic culture and practice.
  • Developing a Chapter Information Sheet which can be used by prospective candidates is key to ensuring future members are able to make an informed decision on what day of the week, time, location, cost and frequency of when their Chapter may meet. Matching a Master Mason to a Royal Arch Chapter which is not a good fit for their pre-existing commitments, could in the long term, prove detrimental to their membership of the Royal Arch.
  • In addition to developing your Information sheet, the Talking Heads presentation and the Discover More booklet are resources which you will find useful.
