Light Blues Shine at Southampton University Lodge Festival

On Saturday 7 March 2026, Southampton University Lodge No. 7022 hosted a vibrant Light Blues Masonic Festival at the Albion Place Masonic Centre, bringing together newer Freemasons from across the region for an evening of learning, participation, and celebration of Masonic ritual.

The highlight of the evening was the initiation of two new Brethren into the Lodge. In keeping with the spirit of a Light Blues festival, much of the ceremonial work was performed by newer members of the Craft, supported by visiting Light Blue Masons who took on several of the ritual roles throughout the ceremony.

The event was carefully planned and coordinated by Assistant Provincial Grand Master Jon Bell, with valued assistance from Dave Bowen, Paul Moriarty, the Worshipful Master,  and the members of Southampton University Lodge.

Those present were treated to an initiation ceremony delivered to a notably high standard. It was clear that considerable time and effort had been invested in preparation, with the ritual flowing smoothly and requiring minimal prompting. The confidence and commitment shown by the Light Blue participants demonstrated the dedication of the newer generation of Freemasons to learning and preserving the traditions of the Craft.

The ceremony was both engaging and memorable for the many visitors in attendance, and most importantly for the two newly initiated Brethren, who experienced their introduction to Freemasonry in a warm and supportive environment.

Attendance on the evening was very strong, with Brethren from across the Province turning out to support the initiative. The enthusiastic turnout and the success of the ceremony bode well for future Light Blues events, which aim to encourage participation, build confidence in ritual delivery, and strengthen connections between Lodges.

The festival stood as a testament to the energy and commitment of newer Freemasons within the Province, and to the supportive environment fostered by more experienced Brethren who continue to mentor and encourage them. If this event is any indication, similar Light Blues gatherings are set to become a welcome and regular feature of the Masonic calendar
