Freemasons from across the Southampton area will proudly take part in this year’s Remembrance Day Parade at Southampton Guildhall, mustering at 10:30 a.m. alongside veterans, serving members of the Armed Forces, and community representatives.
Their participation reflects the strong and enduring connection between Freemasonry and the Military, a relationship built on shared values of service, integrity, and remembrance. Many Freemasons are themselves veterans or reservists, and lodges throughout Hampshire and the Isle of Wight have long supported Armed Forces charities and commemorative events.
This year’s attendance holds particular significance following the recent signing of the Armed Forces Covenant by the United Grand Lodge of England. By signing the Covenant, Freemasonry has formally pledged its support to those who serve or have served in the Armed Forces, as well as to their families — reinforcing a bond that has existed informally for centuries.
Brethren attending the parade are asked to wear their Masonic collars as a mark of respect and unity, symbolising the Craft’s visible commitment to remembrance and community service.
The Provincial Grand Master – Jon Whitaker and Assistant Provincial Grand Master (NE) Duncan Lilley – encourage all who are able to join the muster at Southampton Guildhall to stand shoulder to shoulder with fellow citizens in honouring the fallen and all who continue to serve.
As a footnote – W.Bro Steve Blake, himself a veteran, has been overseeing the South Central Area’s Poppy appeal contribution, with early signs showing an excellent amount collected – Great work Steve – and to all who have assisted and supported you!!!!!
